Thank you so much for all your encouragement, love and engagement. I have continued to be home based for the month of October, recovering from the scheduled surgery on my left knee in September. On the whole this has been a smooth and easy recovery but there have been some days of extreme pain, exhaustion and feeling overwhelmed. But then that is life! Thank you for praying.
Before we come to other Heartcry news, I would love to share some of the thoughts behind our Fresh Bread broadcast for this month which you can listen to by clicking this YouTube link or by going to our Facebook page. Although it was still fairly early in my recovery journey post-surgery I did speak at the Movement Conference in St Helens. I was so grateful for the support of Craig Lawrenson and team who made this time so special and easy. I felt God ask me to speak about “moving with the cloud and fire” in times of wilderness. In these days many of us are aware that we need to be people that carry the PRESENCE and POWER of GOD, people of the cloud and the fire! We are recognising that we need trusted prophetic voices, ministers who know the voice of God and know how to lead. We need to find our hubs, networks and prophetic communities where we know God speaks and we where we will be equipped to hear Him and then mobilised to train others. Then from this space we are marked with HIS PRESENCE and can follow His voice.
Exodus 13:17-18 For God said, “If they face war, they might change their minds and return to Egypt.” 18 So God led the people around by the desert – wilderness – road toward the Red Sea.
At this time, I believe many of us are being led into a wilderness season before we enter into our inheritance. I felt God say that being in the wilderness is not a punishment but it is a training ground to teach us resilience and consistency. We see this in the life of Jesus: He was baptised and then went into the wilderness. Only then did He walk out with power into His inheritance season. It is in this wilderness season that we need to learn to walk with the cloud and the fire. God is not in a hurry. He is happy to take the long way round to our destination and land of inheritance so that we learn the principles of walking with consistency and resilience but also with daily miracles. The cloud itself was a miracle in the midst of the desert…manna was also a daily miracle…etc. There are no shortcuts – we need to learn to walk in the wilderness – the place of restriction, scarcity and discipline but also with the intimacy of God providing protection and releasing miracles daily.
Even though life has been more measured for me, Heartcry has still been busy! I will let Helen fill in the details of a mission’s trip to the Middle East, a conference in Wales plus other adventures where Gordon had the opportunity to attend the Hillsong European conference and The Altars conference in Scotland.
Helen writes:
Speaking of miracles in the wilderness, it was an absolute joy to be back in the Middle East and my second home. Spending time with long-term friends is so special, especially when you see the generational blessing that is now flowing because of courageous choices made by the parenting generation to follow Jesus against the prevailing tide. I spent a week with their sons and daughters, now young marrieds or single young professionals. The spiritual hunger was wonderful and it was a privilege to meet in homes and share about, and pray for, the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Even curious grandparents started to sneak in to see what their grandkids were up to! On the Friday, in what was a literal desert wilderness until a few years ago, I attended a new church family gathering that has sprung up and is now around 450 strong: the meeting place was heaving with young people and children, with every conceivable space taken up, including all across the stage and up and down the stairs! Worship was passionate, prayer deep, and the message profound and practical. This is the wilderness generation encountering Jesus and emerging, like Joshua, into a new land of promise. We see one aspect of this region in the news but the God of miracles is at work!
On returning home I joined Rachel and Gordon in St Helen’s for the Movement Conference and enjoyed time to connect with other ministry friends from Liverpool and Manchester. From there I traveled across to Llandudno in north Wales to speak at a Christian holiday week for (mainly) seniors. Their theme was “Faith invading the impossible” and I had the privilege to bring two opening messages. One powerful moment came when we pondered the question – is anything ever meant to be impossible to us as believers? Slightly turning the all too familiar idea that nothing is impossible for God on its head, we considered whether some things should remain impossible for us!? We dwelt on the thought that only doors which Jesus closes become “impossible” for us to open, and are therefore out of bounds for us to attempt to “invade”. Sometimes we find ourselves camped outside a closed door and no amount of sentimental longing can cause it to re-open. But it is the kindness of God that some of these doors to past seasons have been firmly shut. In our hearts we need to come to a place of faith that when God closes one door, He usually always opens another. Even if we find ourselves in the wilderness of transition, we have to come into agreement with our God-ordained season and trust Him to lead us through the desert…as Rachel said, with miracles along the way! When mindsets align with Kingdom thinking, it’s then that faith awakens and God writes “mission possible” over areas of our lives where we have lost hope. There were some tears and special moments of ministry as we processed this in Wales. Please know that you, too, are seen by our Heavenly Father and He loves you and will lead you, no matter where you find yourself at this time so lean in and trust Him.
So October has been full and blessed. Looking ahead to November, Rachel will be starting a graduated return to work – please pray for her to continue to know the right pace to pick up as her physiotherapy continues. As for me (Helen), I will be slowing down a little! On November 11th I am having scheduled surgery on my left ankle, similar to the procedure two years ago on my right ankle. I will be non-weight bearing for six weeks up to Christmas and don’t expect to work much during that time as pain medication is not a great aid to clear thinking! I will then have a further 6-8 week journey of physio to begin to walk and eventually drive again. I am up for miracles in the wilderness so would value your prayers for a successful operation with no complications or infections and a full and timely recovery. Thank you!
As we write, Gordon is up in Edinburgh attending The Altars Scotland conference, a gathering for church pastors, leaders and ministry teams with the purpose of rebuilding the altars of prayer and worship in churches throughout Scotland and awakening people to the presence of Jesus. As we start November, we are looking forward to a similar gathering in Wembley called The Roar. If you are near London, please do consider joining us by clicking the link in the itinerary below for more details.
We are excited to start 2027 with our new year Heartcry Legacy Day on Saturday 30 January 2027 in Oxford. Registration is now open so please use this link to book your place. We are expecting a very full house so do book in early and bring some friends!
